POS to Speak at Plant Protein Conference

POS is excited to participate in the Advancement in Plant Proteins workshop on September 26th. The conference is sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Food Science & Technology, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre (Food Centre). Hosted at the Willows Golf & Country Club, this one-day conference is designed to bring together local stakeholders in the plant protein value chain and address the technical opportunities, funding, and regulatory advancements of the industry. The conference will be a great springboard for those looking to get into plant proteins as well, as there will be a special session on funding and emerging opportunities within the industry.

Dr. Rick Green, President of Intellectual Capital Generation at POS, will be speaking on the processing and cost implications of plant proteins. Dr. Green’s session will cover commercial processing methods used by the industry, specifically for the extraction and isolation of plant protein concentrates and isolates. As part of his presentation, Dr. Green will talk about the opportunity for development of specialty proteins and bioactive peptides and their unique uses in Nutraceuticals and as Functional Food ingredients. The session will also address emerging opportunities for value-added processing methods, particularly for small businesses looking to get into the plant protein industry. The sessions are a great way for everyone in the value chain to gain knowledge about processing crops grown in Saskatchewan, and to help producers understand the potential value of new crops. POS’s industry partner, the Food Centre, will offer a presentation on product innovations and opportunities at the event, and both POS and the Food Centre will be participating in a Q&A panel.
