Case Study: Tepha, Inc.

Tepha, Inc. is a medical device firm that develops and commercializes innovative products based on the company’s proprietary polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biomaterial technology.

The Role of POS

Tepha began working with POS in 2002 to develop its biopolymer resin production processes — processes that had not yet been demonstrated at the pilot-plant-scale. Today, TephaFLEX polymer is the first of the company’s PHA materials to be used in such FDA-cleared medical equipment as surgical sutures, surgical mesh, surgical film, and composite mesh.

In 2007, POS also assisted Tepha with the design and selection of equipment for its commercial-scale processing lines.

But Don’t Take Our Word For It

“The work that was done by POS has formed a strong foundation upon which Tepha has developed its biopolymer-based product lines. I’ve also been very impressed with the POS facilities, and the willingness of POS to help us design our own processing lines and source equipment.”
